Despite the early rain and cool weather, a large crowd turned out to enjoy Kearny’s 4th of July celebration at Veterans Field.   Families began arriving in the late afternoon, setting up seats in the prime viewing areas to listen to the Garden State Orchestra’s performance and to enjoy the fireworks display.

Kearny Memorial Day Ceremonies Recognize Those Who Served Our Country

Although weather conditions forced the cancelation of the annual Memorial Day Parade on Thursday, May 22nd for the second year in a row, it did not stop the other ceremonies planned for the evening.   Moved indoors to American Legion Post 99 the program featured keynote speaker John “Jack” Kane and remarks by Mayor Alberto G. Santos.  John Sweeney served as the Master of Ceremonies and this year’s Grand Marshal was Pat Dunrovich.

The Woman’s Club of Arlington (AWC) celebrated their 120th Anniversary on Sunday, May 18, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at the Stony Hill Inn in Hackensack. 

The milestone festivity featured a formal luncheon to honor the accomplishments of the Arlington clubwomen throughout its 12 decades of community service.  Mayor Alberto G. Santos delivered the keynote address to recognize the contributions of the Arlington clubwomen to the Town of Kearny over the past 120 years. 

Kearny Sponsors the 23rd Annual Passaic River Cleanup

The Town of Kearny held its 23rd annual River Cleanup at Riverbank Park in Kearny on Saturday, April 12th. Organized by 3rd Ward Councilwoman Carol Jean Doyle and co-sponsored by the Passaic Valley River Restoration Group, numerous volunteers showed up at the park’s Frank A. Vincent Marina to help remove litter and debris from the banks of the Passaic River. Young and old alike joined the effort.

2014 St. Patrick's Day Parade

On Sunday March 16, 2014 Irish eyes were smiling at the 41st Annual West Hudson St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Under clear blue skies, thousands of people lined Kearny Avenue to enjoy the parade. This year Grand Marshal Joseph McGonigal and Deputy Grand Marshals Larry Handlin and Carol Manley led the march through Harrison, East Newark and Kearny. The United Irish Association of West Hudson sponsors the annual event.

Hurricane Sandy Relief Still Available For Eligible Homeowners And Renters

Mayor Alberto G. Santos announced that New Jersey’s Sandy Homeowner and Renter Assistance Program (SHRAP) is available to help eligible people who have housing-related financial distress that resulted from Hurricane Sandy.  Mayor Santos said, “Hurricane Sandy caused significant damage in Kearny and other New Jersey communities.  I urge all eligible victims of Hurricane Sandy to apply for help from SHRAP, if they meet the guidelines for the program.

Kearny DPW Announces Telephone Hotline For Public To Report Pothole Locations

Kearny Mayor Alberto G. Santos and Kearny DPW Superintendent Gerry Kerr announced that a telephone hotline is available for residents to report the location of potholes on the Town’s roadways. The public can share information about where potholes are located by calling (201) 955-7889.  When leaving a message on the hotline, the public is asked to provide the nearest street address or the nearest cross street where the pothole is located.
