On Sunday, July 22, 2018, the Peruvian Civic Association of New Jersey (PCANJ) celebrated Peruvian Independence with their annual parade. The parade line of march stepped off in Harrison and traveled to Kearny Town Hall while participants exhibited their culture through the use of native costumes, bands, decorative floats, and marchers from many fellow Peruvian Associations. (KEARNY, NJ) – On Wednesday, July 4, 2018, the Town of Kearny held its annual Fireworks Celebration at Veteran’s Memorial Field on Belgrove Drive. Mayor Alberto G. Santos along with Councilmembers Carol Jean Doyle, Susan McCurrie, Marytrine De Castro and Peter Santana joined Kearny residents for the event. Each year, the July 4th Fireworks Celebration becomes larger and more spectacular.
Mayor Alberto G. Santos announced that exam applications for the civil service position of fire fighter in the Town of Kearny are now available online. Residents can obtain an application and submit payment online at www.state.nj.us/csc. Only online application will be accepted.
On Thursday, June 21, 2018, Mayor Alberto G. Santos and the Town Council, members the Kearny Community Garden, Rev. Elaine Connolly and members of the First Presbyterian Church of Arlington joined the family of the late Edward C. Bixler for a sign unveiling and dedication ceremony at the Community Garden. Ed Bixler’s wife, Margaret (Peg) Bixler assisted with the unveiling of the new sign.

On June 9th, Kearny Awake (Association of Water, Agriculture and Kearny’s Environment) planted trees on Vet’s Field near Passaic Avenue as the group’s first green infrastructure project.
Beginning Thursday, June 21st the Kearny Farmers Market will be opened for business. Shoppers will enjoy “JERSEY FRESH” produce like just picked strawberries and blueberries, honey, specialty cookies and breads, and herbs and flowers.
