(KEARNY, NJ) – On Wednesday, July 4, 2018, the Town of Kearny held its annual Fireworks Celebration at Veteran’s Memorial Field on Belgrove Drive. Mayor Alberto G. Santos along with Councilmembers Carol Jean Doyle, Susan McCurrie, Marytrine De Castro and Peter Santana joined Kearny residents for the event. In an afternoon ceremony on Tuesday, June 5th, Mayor Alberto G. Santos joined First Ward Council Members Alexa Arce and Albino Cardoso, and members of the Recreation Commission in officially opening the new Brighton Avenue Playground on Brighton Avenue, located in a residential neighborhood between Bergen Avenue and Wilson Avenue. The new 27,000 square foot playground area includes a slide and climbing boulder.
At the March 27, 2012 meeting of the Mayor and Council an ordinance revising the Town Code and updating the allowable charges for municipal police towing was approved. The last time fees for towing and related services were addressed by the Mayor and Council was in 1998.
On Sunday March 11, 2012 Irish eyes were smiling at the 39th Annual West Hudson St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Under clear blue skies, thousands of people lined Kearny Avenue to enjoy the parade. This year Grand Marshall Lawrence Bennett and Deputy Marshall Michael O’Donnell led the march through Harrison, East Newark and Kearny.

On Tuesday, October 25th, Mayor Alberto Santos, Town Council members Albino Cardoso, Carol Jean Doyle and Susan McCurrie and Recreation Committee Chair Lyla DeCastro Lawdanski joined design architect Noel Musial for the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Veterans Field Sports Facility that has been designed to achieve LEED certification.
On Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at the Regular Meeting of the Mayor and Town Council, Paul Silverman presented the Silverman Family Scholarship to Janine Migliaccio, a current student at the Culinary Arts Institute (CAI) of Hudson County Community College in Jersey City. Janine Migliaccio is a resident of the Town of Kearny and graduate of Kearny High School.
