(KEARNY, NJ) – On Wednesday, July 4, 2018, the Town of Kearny held its annual Fireworks Celebration at Veteran’s Memorial Field on Belgrove Drive. Mayor Alberto G. Santos along with Councilmembers Carol Jean Doyle, Susan McCurrie, Marytrine De Castro and Peter Santana joined Kearny residents for the event. The Mayor and Town Council have agreed to broadcast public Council meetings live on Channel 39, an outlet available to subscribers of Verizon’s FIOS television service. The first meeting aired live is scheduled for Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at 7 p.m. A schedule of regular public meetings of the Mayor and Council for 2010 is available on the Town’s web site, www.kearnynj.org.
Taxes for the first quarter are due by February 10, 2010. After February 10th, interest will be charged on delinquent amounts calculated from February 1st. The Tax Collector’s Office, located in the Town Hall at 402 Kearny Ave. will be open until 7:00 pm on February 9th. Taxes for the second quarter are due by May 10, 2010. After May 10th, interest will be charged on delinquent amounts calculated from May 1st. The Tax Collector’s Office will be open until 7:00 pm on May 6th.
MAYOR SANTOS DELIVERS 2010 INAUGURAL ADDRESS AS HE BEGINS HIS FIFTH TERM AS THE 19TH MAYOR OF KEARNY
The Town of Kearny hosted an inauguration ceremony at Town Hall on January 4, 2010. Alberto G. Santos was sworn in as Mayor. Alexa C. Arce, Albino Cardoso, Madeline Peyko, Carol Jean Doyle and Michael Landy were sworn in as Members of the Council. The ceremony’s highlights included musical performances by the Kearny High School singing group the K-Birds and Francis Raftery, a bagpipe player.
Town Hall Park was filled with holiday cheer as hundreds of residents attended Kearny’s annual tree lighting festival on December 4, 2009. In addition to a visit from Santa, the event featured performances by the Kearny High School Wind Ensemble, the Washington School Dream Team, Mater Dei Academy Drama Club, Mater Dei Academy Children's Choir and Stonehenge, a local band.
The Kearny Transit-Oriented District (TOD) Vision Plan is the result of an interactive, community-based planning process in the Town of Kearny that began in 2008. It presents a transit-oriented vision for an area of the Town for which plans are being made, as part of NJ Transit’s Access to Region’s Core (ARC) Tunnel Project, to provide NJ Transit commuter rail service. Kearny, NJ (November 24, 2009) – Sustainable Jersey representatives announced today that Kearny has met the rigorous requirements to achieve Sustainable Jersey Certification. Kearny is one of 28 towns out of the 240 registered municipalities that have attained certification in the first year of the program.
Mayor Santos is pleased to announce that on October 6, Kearny’s Passaic Avenue Revelopment Zone, was designated as a Brownfields Development Area (BDA) by the New Jersey Department of the Environmental Protection qualifying properties for funding of up to $5 million dollars annually for environmental investigation and remediation cleanup.
