Renovated Coogan Playground in Manor Park is Re-Opened

On September 9, 2010, Mayor Alberto G. Santos, the Town Council and the Recreation Commission formally reopened Coogan Playground in Manor Park, located in Kearny on West Bennett Avenue between Hamilton Avenue and Jefferson Street. Coogan Playground is the latest Kearny playground to be updated and modernized. The 16,400 square foot playground (0.38 acres) includes two play structures for children ages 3 to 5 and 5 to 12 years old and a swing structure with handicap accessibility.

St. Patrick's Day Parade

On Sunday, March 13, 2011, the Town of Kearny celebrated St. Patrick’s Day by participating in the 38th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade organized by the United Irish Association of West Hudson, Inc. The Parade began in Harrison and traveled along Frank E. Rodgers Boulevard in Harrison and East Newark and Kearny Avenue in Kearny with a closing ceremony at Town Hall.

Town of Kearny Authorizes Changing the Election Date of School Board Members from April to the General Election in November

Mayor Alberto G. Santos and the Town Council unanimously adopted a resolution at their regular meeting held on January 24, 2012 moving the school district’s annual election from April to the General Election date in November. The Kearny Board of Education also adopted a resolution authorizing the change of election date at their meeting held on January 17, 2012.

Kearny Police Department to partner with DEA NJ in Operation Take Back NJ, an operation to collect unwanted medications from area citizens

Chief John Dowie announces that on Saturday, September 25, 2010, the Kearny Police Department Community-Oriented Policing Unit (C.O.P. Unit) will be staffing a collection point for citizens’ unwanted, unused, or expired medications. The collection will be held at the Kearny Police Juvenile Aid Bureau Office located on the Forest Street side of police headquarters (237 Laurel Avenue) from 10am until 2pm.  

Mayor Santos announces upcoming Civil Service exam for Municipal Police Officer

Mayor Santos would like to inform interested residents that exam applications for the civil service position of police officer in the Town of Kearny are now available. Residents can pick up applications in the Personnel Office at 410 Kearny Avenue or obtain an application online at www.state.nj.us/cscp/public_safety. The application fee is $35.00.
