Dear Kearny Taxpayer:
The Kearny Public Library will join the New Jersey State Library, the New Jersey Library Association and libraries throughout the state to honor the legacy of Abraham Lincoln by participating in the Pennies for Peace Campaign during the month of February. Lincoln firmly believed in education, equality, opportunity and peace.
The Town of Kearny is proud and happy to congratulate Cheryl Olcheski for the honor of receiving a special proclamation from Kearny Mayor Alberto Santos for all her work with the Red Cross. Mayor Santos referred to Cheryl as a “point of light” for the town and its residents.
For the past six months I have repeatedly raised the alarm that 2011 will be a very difficult year for balancing municipal budgets throughout New Jersey. As we near the end of 2010, a perfect storm of events has made the outlook even bleaker.
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Green Acres Program announced on March 31, 2009 that Kearny would be awarded $870,000 for the construction of an all-season soccer field at the Town's Harvey Field complex. The award consists of a $435,000 loan and a $435,000 matching grant. The new turf will allow for extended play and usage of the field. The project improvements also include new sidewalks, bleachers, lighting and signage.
