Hundreds of dogs and their owners arrived in costumes at Arlington Depot Park on a beautiful fall day for the first-ever Kearny Doggie Halloween PAWrade & Festival sponsored by the KUEZ, K9 Corner and Bone Appetit Spa and Barkery.
On Saturday, October 11 the Kearny Scouts held a Grand Re-Opening and ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Girl Scout building. The event included a tour of the building, arts and craft projects, refreshments, speakers and open registration for any girls interested in joining the Girl Scouts.
The first four BigBelly solar-powered compacting trash cans have arrived in the Town of Kearny. These cleaner and greener cans hold up to five times the amount of trash the current cans hold and cut down on greenhouse gas emissions. They have a wireless signal technology that will notify the Town’s garbage hauler how full the cans are at any given time. This notification system will help the hauler save time since they will not have to check the compacting trash cans on a regular basis.
National Night Out Against Crime, sponsored by the Kearny Community Policing Unit, was held last week on Belgrove Drive and Veteran’s Field. Hundreds of town residents turned out for the annual event. Representatives from various local groups including; the Municipal Alliance, Barnabas Health, Cub Scout Pack 305 and Junior Police Academy graduates set up tables to provide health and safety information.
Tax bills for the next four quarters were mailed out on August 1st.
The due date for the 3rd quarter tax bill has been extended to August 28th and the Tax Collector’s Office will be open late until 7:00 pm on Wednesday, August 27th . If you have any questions you can call the Tax Office at 201-955-7888.
On Sunday, July 20th, the Peruvian Civic Association of New Jersey (PCANJ) celebrated Peruvian Independence with a parade through Harrison and Kearny. The parade featured dancers dressed in beautiful native costumes, bands, floats and marchers from many area Peruvian organizations.
Despite the early rain and cool weather, a large crowd turned out to enjoy Kearny’s 4th of July celebration at Veterans Field. Families began arriving in the late afternoon, setting up seats in the prime viewing areas to listen to the Garden State Orchestra’s performance and to enjoy the fireworks display.
On Sunday, June 1, 2014, under blue skies in the Town of Kearny, a new monument recognizing the contributions of Kearny’s Portuguese-American community was unveiled and dedicated at the Frank M. Cardoza Park at Riverbank Park.
Although weather conditions forced the cancelation of the annual Memorial Day Parade on Thursday, May 22nd for the second year in a row, it did not stop the other ceremonies planned for the evening. Moved indoors to American Legion Post 99 the program featured keynote speaker John “Jack” Kane and remarks by Mayor Alberto G. Santos. John Sweeney served as the Master of Ceremonies and this year’s Grand Marshal was Pat Dunrovich.
The Woman’s Club of Arlington (AWC) celebrated their 120th Anniversary on Sunday, May 18, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at the Stony Hill Inn in Hackensack.
The milestone festivity featured a formal luncheon to honor the accomplishments of the Arlington clubwomen throughout its 12 decades of community service. Mayor Alberto G. Santos delivered the keynote address to recognize the contributions of the Arlington clubwomen to the Town of Kearny over the past 120 years.
