Mayor Santos and Council Members Arce and Cardoso Open the New Brighton Avenue Playground in the First Ward

In an afternoon ceremony on Tuesday, June 5th, Mayor Alberto G. Santos joined First Ward Council Members Alexa Arce and Albino Cardoso, and members of the Recreation Commission in officially opening the new Brighton Avenue Playground on Brighton Avenue, located in a residential neighborhood between Bergen Avenue and Wilson Avenue. The new 27,000 square foot playground area includes a slide and climbing boulder.

Mayor Santos Defends Tax Sharing in the Meadowlands District

            The New Jersey Meadowlands Commission (NJMC) is the zoning and planning agency for the 30.4 square mile Meadowlands District created in 1969.  The District consists of 45,000 acres, including 19,500 land acres, in portions of 14 municipalities.  One of those municipalities is Kearny.  This paper summarizes the importance of regional land use planning in the Meadowlands District and the key role of revenue sharing in that framework.  Kearny is the largest recipient of tax sharing

St Patrick's Day Parade

On Sunday March 11, 2012 Irish eyes were smiling at the 39th Annual West Hudson St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Under clear blue skies, thousands of people lined Kearny Avenue to enjoy the parade. This year Grand Marshall Lawrence Bennett and Deputy Marshall Michael O’Donnell led the march through Harrison, East Newark and Kearny.

Town of Kearny Authorizes Changing the Election Date of School Board Members from April to the General Election in November

Mayor Alberto G. Santos and the Town Council unanimously adopted a resolution at their regular meeting held on January 24, 2012 moving the school district’s annual election from April to the General Election date in November. The Kearny Board of Education also adopted a resolution authorizing the change of election date at their meeting held on January 17, 2012.

Kearny holds groundbreaking for new Veterans Field Sports Facility

On Tuesday, October 25th, Mayor Alberto Santos, Town Council members Albino Cardoso, Carol Jean Doyle and Susan McCurrie and Recreation Committee Chair Lyla DeCastro Lawdanski joined design architect Noel Musial for the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Veterans Field Sports Facility that has been designed to achieve LEED certification.
