Kearny Public Library Honors Dennis Triano For 31 Years of Service as Library Trustee

On Friday, November 30, 2012, Mayor Santos joined Library Director Josh Humphrey, the Library Board Trustees, including President Jennifer Cullen, Council Members Eileen Eckel and Carol Jean Doyle, and the many Friends of the Library in honoring Dennis Triano for his 31 years of service as a Library Trustee. Originally appointed by Mayor Henry Hill in 1981, Dennis is the longest serving Library Board Trustee in the State.

Tax Bills for the next four quarters are currently being printed and will be mailed by July 30th.

The due date for the 3rd quarter Tax Bill has been extended to August 24th and the Tax Office will be open late until 7 PM on Wednesday, August 22nd.

The Tax Office can provide the amount due on your 3rd quarter Tax Bill should you wish to pay before receiving your bill in the mail. They can be reached at 201-955-7888.

July 4th Celebration


Despite the extreme heat, one of the largest crowds in recent memory enjoyed Kearny’s 4th of July celebration. Families began arriving early in the afternoon, setting up seats in the prime viewing areas to listen to the Garden State Orchestra’s performance and to enjoy the fireworks display.

Mayor Santos and the North Hudson Community Action Corporation Invite Residents to a Career Fair on June 27


Mayor Alberto G. Santos is pleased to announce that on June 27, 2012 the Town of Kearny in cooperation with North Hudson Community Action Corporation (NHCAC) will hold a job fair for area residents. The job fair will be held in the Kearny Main Library, 318 Kearny Avenue, on the lower level from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Mayor Santos and Council Members Arce and Cardoso Open the New Brighton Avenue Playground in the First Ward


In an afternoon ceremony on Tuesday, June 5th, Mayor Alberto G. Santos joined First Ward Council Members Alexa Arce and Albino Cardoso, and members of the Recreation Commission in officially opening the new Brighton Avenue Playground on Brighton Avenue, located in a residential neighborhood between Bergen Avenue and Wilson Avenue. The new 27,000 square foot playground area includes a slide and climbing boulder.

Mayor Santos Defends Tax Sharing in the Meadowlands District

            The New Jersey Meadowlands Commission (NJMC) is the zoning and planning agency for the 30.4 square mile Meadowlands District created in 1969.  The District consists of 45,000 acres, including 19,500 land acres, in portions of 14 municipalities.  One of those municipalities is Kearny.  This paper summarizes the importance of regional land use planning in the Meadowlands District and the key role of revenue sharing in that framework.  Kearny is the largest recipient of tax sharing

St Patrick's Day Parade


On Sunday March 11, 2012 Irish eyes were smiling at the 39th Annual West Hudson St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Under clear blue skies, thousands of people lined Kearny Avenue to enjoy the parade. This year Grand Marshall Lawrence Bennett and Deputy Marshall Michael O’Donnell led the march through Harrison, East Newark and Kearny.
