Renovated Futsal Facility with Synthetic Turf is Re-Opened

Mayor Alberto G. Santos, the Town Council and members of the Recreation Commission formally re-opened the Town’s Futsal Facility on March 31, 2009. The facility, located on Passaic Avenue, was re-surfaced with synthetic turf that was manufactured by Field Turf. The facility measures 25,250 square feet and consists of three practice soccer fields. It is the latest Kearny recreational facility to be updated and modernized.

Planning for this project and management of its construction was undertaken by the Town’s Recreation Department, under the direction of the Assistant to the Superintendent of Recreation, Ralph Cattafi, and the Town Council Liaison to the Recreation Commission, Councilman Michael Landy. The total cost of the project was $198,000.00, which was funded through a grant from the U.S. Soccer Foundation. According to Mayor Santos, "Grant funding has enabled the Town of Kearny to improve our parks and recreation areas. This field in particular will provide much-needed field time for our local soccer leagues and programs."
