Saint Patrick’s Day Parade in Kearny

News Date:

On Sunday, March 15, 2015, Irish eyes were smiling and hundreds of people lined Kearny Avenue to enjoy the parade as the Town of Kearny celebrated Saint Patrick’s Day by participating in the 42nd Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade organized by the United Irish Associations of West Hudson.

The parade began in Harrison and traveled along Frank E. Rodgers Boulevard in Harrison and Central Avenue in East Newark before making its way up Kearny Avenue in Kearny with a closing ceremony at Town Hall. This year’s parade featured over 50 groups and 1,000 marchers and included local High School and Junior High School Marching Bands, Pipe Bands and Irish dancers. It was a great day to be Irish!

This year’s Parade Grand Marshal Michael Gray and Deputy Grand Marshals Georgina (Gina) O’Donnell-Wiltrout and Jane Atchinson-Mackesy were escorted by the award-winning Color Guard of the West Hudson Marine Corps League and the St. Columcille United Gaelic Pipe Band. Residents and community leaders throughout West Hudson came out in celebration of Saint Patrick’s Day.

The Mayor and Town Council extend sincere thanks to the Grand Marshal, Deputy Grand Marshals, participants and spectators for making this year’s Saint Patrick’s Day Parade a great success.
