National Night Out

Kearny, NJ – National Night Out Against Crime, sponsored by the Kearny Community Policing Unit, was held on Tuesday, August 4th on Belgrove Drive and Veteran’s Field. Hundreds of town residents turned out for the annual event. Representatives from various local groups including; the Municipal Alliance, Cub Scout Pack 305 and Junior Police Academy graduates set up tables to provide health and safety information.  Members from the Kearny Fire Department, Police Department and Emergency Squad were present with demonstrations and displays of some of their latest equipment.  The evening featured a wide range of family friendly activities including a bounce ride and a chance to spray a fire hose for children.  A live band performance and an antique car display entertained the adults.  National Night Out is a crime, drug and violence prevention program designed to promote cooperative, police-community crime prevention efforts.  The grand finale for the evening was the arrival and landing of a New Jersey State Police helicopter on Veteran’s Field.
