Town of Kearny Recognizes Joseph P. Slavik and Janice Barton for their Service on Zoning Board

Kearny, NJ – On Tuesday, December 1, 2015, at the Regular Meeting of the Zoning Board of Adjustment, Mayor Alberto G. Santos and the Town Council presented proclamations to Joseph P. Slavik and Janice Barton to commemorate Joseph’s 40 and Janice’s 31 years of continued, dedicated service as members of the Zoning Board.  Family and members of the Zoning Board were present to celebrate the milestones and extend heartfelt congratulations on this momentous occasion.

Janice Barton was honored at the December 1st meeting of the Kearny Board of Zoning of Adjustment for her 31 years of dedicated service on the Board.  Janice is a proud resident of Kearny and is honored to be a member of the Zoning Board.  She considers her part in preserving the standards of land use in Kearny a privilege and prepares for each meeting with care and attention.  
Janice was born and raised in Kearny and, together with her husband Richard, made the town they love their home.  Janice is a retiree from Mutual Benefit Life.  She enjoys spending her free time with her husband, four children, seven grandchildren and many dear friends as well as gardening and enjoying her time at the Jersey Shore.

Joseph Paul Slavik was born on June 18, 1931 in Kearny, NJ, the proud son of Paul and Mary Slavik.  Joe has spent his entire life living in Kearny and happily resides there on Hickory Street.  Joe graduated from Kearny High School in 1949 and a few years later enlisted in the Army, serving his country during the Korean War.  Following his service in the Army, Joe married his sweetheart, Joan, his wife for 61 years. 
 
 Joe and Joan are the proud parents of four loving children – Joe, Nancy, Jean and Carolyn, nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.  Some of Joe's many activities and interests include:  active parishioner and usher with Our Lady of Sorrows, President of the Democratic Party Second Ward, and a Kearny Zoning Board member for the past 41 years.  Joe's employment career was dedicated to being a steel worker for various companies in northern NJ for over 50 years before retiring at the age of 80.
