Kearny, NJ – On Saturday, April 23, 2016, Council President Carol Jean Doyle, Councilwoman Marytrine De Castro and Councilman Albino Cardoso joined the Town’s Trap/Neuter/Return (TNR) Committee and fellow TNR Committee members during a TNR Food Drive in support of the Town’s TNR program. The Mayor and Council adopted Ordinance 2014-44, Adopting a Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) Program, regulating outdoor cat colonies on November 12, 2014. The program, run by a six-member committee and a group of 27 caregivers, currently maintains 40 cat colonies all over town. Most recently, the Mayor and Town Council authorized the committee to install cat shelters and feeding stations on a section of Town-owned land in South Kearny allowing for better control and maintenance of a cat colony at that location.
