An Environmental Monitoring station will be installed an active at Harvey Field detecting H2S emissions 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. All readings will be recorded.
The monitoring station will be set to take air sampling reading at 10 minute intervals.
When the station detects H2S readings anytime equal to or above the threshold of 15ppb the following actions will be taken:
1) The readings will be sent by email/text to the Health Officer. The Health Officer will then confirm that the readings are valid and then make the determination to close Harvey Field.
2) Once the determination to close Harvey Field has been made the Health Officer shall direct the head of recreation to close the field immediately. Signs will be posted at the gates stating: “field closed until further notice. Please contact the Recreation Department if you have any questions. (201) 955-7983 Ext. 1)”. If the Head of recreation is not available the Chief of Police will be asked to close the field.
3) The Health officer will then monitor the readings until the H2S threshold remains less than 5ppb during a consistent interval period of 30 minutes. Once that level is met for that time frame, the Health Officer will direct the re-opening of Harvey Field.
When the station detects H2S readings anytime equal to above the threshold of 15ppb a second time during the same day the following actions will be taken:
1) The readings will be sent by email/text to the Health Officer. The Health Officer will then confirm that the readings are valid and then make the determination to close Harvey Field for the remainder of the day.
3) Harvey Field will not be re-opened the next day without a reading of less than 5ppb during a consistent interval period of 30 minute or more prior to opening.
