Honoring Those Who Served
The Kearny Hometown Heroes banner program, presented by the Kearny Urban Enterprise Zone (KUEZ) and the Mayor & Council of the Town of Kearny, honors and recognizes the brave men and women who are military veterans or active-duty service members with ties to our community.
Each banner features the name, photograph, and service details of a local veteran or active military member. Banners are sponsored by families, friends, businesses, and organizations, and are displayed along Kearny’s streets from Memorial Day through Veterans Day.
This year, 25 new banners have been added, bringing the total number of Kearny Hometown Heroes honorees to 284.

NEW: Hometown Heroes Audio History Project
We are proud to introduce an exciting new addition to the Hometown Heroes program. In partnership with the Kearny Museum and Kearny Public Library, we have begun recording the personal stories of our Heroes.
These audio interviews capture firsthand accounts of service and life in Kearny across different eras of American history — and they are now part of an interactive online map of Kearny’s Hometown Heroes banners. More importantly, they are becoming a permanent part of our community’s shared history.
So far, approximately 25 interviews have been completed, and we have learned many fascinating things — about Kearny, about service, and about the different periods in history our Heroes have lived through.
We want to hear from you. Whether you are part of this year’s class of Heroes or a past honoree who hasn’t yet shared your story, we would love to record yours. Interviews are available in person at the Kearny Public Library or by phone, and we are also developing a written-response option to make participation as easy as possible.
