The Kearny Police Department announced today enrollment is open for the 1st Citizen’s Police Academy, a 9 week course designed to give residents a working knowledge of law enforcement policies and tactics. Town of Kearny residents 18 years of age and older are eligible to participate.
“One of the most important components of law enforcement is fostering strong relationships with the community,” Chief George King said. “Our Citizen’s Police Academy gives residents first-hand knowledge of the important work police do to enhance public safety and protect Kearny residents.”
The Kearny Police Citizen’s Police Academy is designed to educate participants on the functions of the police department and the role the agency plays in the Town of Kearny. The academy is offered in a classroom-style format with demonstrations of equipment and tactics used by law enforcement.
Participants learn about the tools officers use in a broad range of areas including motor vehicle stops, medical operations, disaster preparedness, criminal investigations, and crime analysis.
The next Citizen’s Police Academy class is slated to begin on Thursday Mach 5th, 2020 at 7 p.m. at the Kearny Police Headquarters located at 237 Laurel Ave. Kearny, NJ. Class meets once a week at various locations around town and concludes with a graduation ceremony.
