Program Details
The Hudson County Lead Safe program provides FREE lead paint remediation and minor home repairs to qualifying properties located
throughout Hudson County.
Eligible Applicants Priority households include those with a child under the age of 6 living in the home (or frequently visiting). Rental units without children present are eligible if landlord agrees to rent to households with children when unit becomes vacant moving forward. Households must be at or below 80% of the median household income. Income of housing occupant determines eligibility. Unless seeking assistance for owner occupied unit, owner’s income is not required to be reviewed, only the tenants’ income. 2019 income limits are as follows:
- 1 Person Household- $52,750
- 2 Person Household – $60,250
- 3 Person Household – $67,800
- 4 Person Household – $75,300
- 5 Person Household – $81,350
- 6 Person Household – $87,350
Eligible Properties Properties must be built before 1978 and contain lead-based paint hazards. Applicants need not know if lead-based paint is present in the home to apply. Free testing will be performed to determine the presence of lead paint hazards. All types of residential properties are eligible including:
o Single Family Homes (Owner occupied or Rental) o 2-4 Family Homes (Owner occupied or Rental) o Multi-family apartment buildings
Funding Availability Up to $20,000 is available per unit to remediate lead-based paint hazards in homes and apartments. Property owners may apply for an entire building or a single unit. Additionally up to $5,000 for repairs and upgrades to make homes safer and healthier.
