North Hudson Community Action Corporation (NHCAC) will hold a Monkeypox Vaccine Clinic at the Kearny Health Department, 645 Kearny Avenue, on Saturday, September 10, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Both first dose and second dose vaccines will be administered at the clinic.
The following persons are eligible to receive the Monkeypox vaccine: men who have sex with men; gay, bisexual or transgender men; men or women who have had multiple or anonymous sex partners; and persons who have come in close contact with someone who has Monkeypox.
The vaccine is given in two doses. Persons should get the second dose at least four weeks after the first dose. You will start to build protection in the days and weeks after your first dose, but you will not have full immunity from the vaccine until two weeks after the second dose.
Persons who received their first dose vaccine in Kearny on August 12, 2022, are reminded to receive their second dose at the September 10th clinic in Kearny. No further registration is needed to receive the second dose at the Kearny clinic.
Persons seeking a first dose are asked to register online through https://nhcac.org/northhudsonmonkeypox/ but walk-ins will be accepted with on-site registration.
First and second dose vaccinations will also be administered at the East Newark Recreation Center, 44 Central Avenue, East Newark, on Thursday, September 8, 2022, from 9 am to 4 pm.
The privacy of all registrants and vaccine recipients will be protected, but applicants must provide photo ID. There will be no charge to recipients for the vaccine or its distribution.
