Beginning Thursday, June 18th the Kearny Farmers Market will be opened for business. Shoppers will enjoy “JERSEY FRESH” produce like just picked strawberries and blueberries, honey, herbs, pickles, specialty cookies and breads.
This year the Kearny Farmers Market will have a different look, due to the COVID-19 crisis. All customers must wear a mask while at the market. There will be dedicated signs to show where you can enter and exit the market. We ask everyone to maintain social distancing, while at the market. People should not gather in groups and only one person per family should attend the market. Customers should avoid touching the merchandise, unless they plan on buying it. If someone is feeling sick, please don’t go to the market. There will be hand sanitizing stations at the market, to be used by everyone attending the market.
Due to the Covid-19 crisis, Alstede Farms will be able to provide curbside pick-up service. You can order online up to the day before the market, on the Alstede website: www.alstedefarms.com. As an alternative to shopping in person, please consider online ordering for curbside pick-up. The designated time and pick-up of the order will be: 11 am-12 pm and 2 pm to 6 pm.
During the 2020 market year, shoppers will receive a FREE earth friendly, reusable canvas shopping bag, as long as supplies last, for the purchase of over $10 at any individual vendor. The 2020 Kearny Farmers Market canvas bags are sponsored by Provident Bank. During the months of July and August, a $1 discount coupon will be available to customers that spend $10 or more in a Kearny Farmers Market individual vendor. The discount coupons are sponsored by the Kearny Urban Enterprise Zone (KUEZ). Senior vouchers are available at the Kearny Health Department.
This year, the Kearny Farmers Market welcomes a new vendor, Another Mother Fermentation. They will be selling pickles, hot sauce, beef jerky, krauts, among other items.
“The Kearny Farmers Market has been gaining in popularity every year. Last year was the most successful market ever. We anticipate that this 15th season will be even better than before.” said Councilwoman, Susan McCurrie. “Where else can you shop Jersey Fresh fruits and vegetables, receive a free canvas bag and use a discount coupon?” she asked.
Mayor Santos asked for Kearny residents to support New Jersey Farmers by coming out and shopping at the Kearny Farmers Market on Thursdays. “We are really proud of the popularity of the Kearny Farmers Market. There’s such a great assortment and freshness of fruits and vegetables, pickles as well as breads and mozzarella cheese” stated Mayor Santos.
The Kearny Farmers Market will be located on Garfield Avenue, between Kearny Avenue and Chestnut Street, adjacent to the Kearny Public Library. The market will be held every Thursday through October, from 12 noon to 6 pm.
