On Wednesday, June 15, 2022, under sunny June skies, Mayor Alberto G. Santos, Council President Carol Jean Doyle, and Council Members Marytrine De Castro, Richard Konopka, Peter Santana and Gerald Ficeto joined more than 200 seniors for the annual senior citizens picnic sponsored by the Mayor and Town Council.
The event officially began at 11:30 am at Doyle Pavilion in Kearny Riverbank Park along the Passaic River. Kearny senior citizens enjoyed a day of music with DJ entertainment and food. The picnic was an opportunity for the town’s senior citizens to gather and enjoy fellowship with friends and neighbors. Representatives from municipal departments and area organizations were present to greet senior residents and to disseminate information regarding their services. Seniors were presented with goodie bags full of donated items and they expressed their gratitude for the nice day filled with great food and the company of friends.
Mayor Santos noted that the picnic was a way to express appreciation to Kearny’s seniors, many of whom have called the town home for years, and commented, “This is one of the most popular events for our seniors. We enjoy honoring them for all their contributions to our community.” He added, “Council Member Carol Jean Doyle does an extraordinary job organizing this annual picnic and we especially thank her for her tireless efforts.”
Mayor Santos and the Town Council extend their gratitude to residents and businesses that volunteered their time and made generous donations in support of the event. The picnic is open to all Kearny senior residents 60 years and older and there is no charge.
