Kearny, NJ – The Town of Kearny held its 28th annual River Cleanup at Riverbank Park in Kearny on Saturday, April 27, 2019. Organized by 3rd Ward Councilwoman Carol Jean Doyle and co-sponsored by the Passaic Valley River Restoration Group and the Kearny Shop Rite, numerous volunteers showed up at the park’s Frank A. Vincent Marina to help remove litter and debris from the banks of the Passaic River. Young and old alike joined the effort. Volunteers from Girl Scout Troop 10648, the Rotary Club and students from Kearny High School, Lincoln Middle School, and The Academy at Saint Mary joined local residents on a beautiful spring morning to participate in the annual spring clean-up. Mayor Alberto G. Santos and Council Members Carol Jean Doyle, Susan McCurrie, Eileen Eckel, Marytrine De Castro, Albino Cardoso, Peter Santana, Gerald Ficeto, the Kearny Fire Department and Department of Public Works also helped make this year’s cleanup a successful event.
