Mayor Alberto G. Santos Announces 15th Annual Tie a Ribbon ™ Campaign to Kick-off Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Recognizes Emma Quintana, Mujeres Valientes (Brave Women) and Susan G. Komen North Jersey®
On Tuesday, September 25, 2018, Mayor Alberto G. Santos and the Town Council presented a Proclamation to Emma Quintana of Mujeres Valientes (Brave Women) and Susan G. Komen® in recognition of their 15th Anniversary and efforts to raise Breast Cancer Awareness in the Town of Kearny. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and the pink ribbons are meant to send the message that “Mammograms Save Lives.” Mujeres Valientes is a support group, founded by Kearny resident Emma Quintana, for women and families battling breast cancer. The Mayor said, “I want to thank all of the members of Mujeres Valientes and Susan G. Komen® for their compassion, their strength and their willingness to help others in our community. I still remember the day over 15 years ago when Emma Quintana approached me to begin a tri-lingual support group (English, Spanish and Portuguese) for residents of Kearny, Harrison and East Newark. Over the years, the members of this organization have supported each other and increased public awareness about the importance of early detection. It is a great honor to join you today and celebrate this anniversary with you.”
The Tie a Ribbon ™ Campaign kick-off event in the Town of Kearny is scheduled to be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2018 in front of Kearny Town Hall and is co-sponsored by Mujeres Valientes and Susan G. Komen North Jersey®. The Tie a Ribbon ™ Campaign brings hope into the community and increases public awareness about the importance of early detection.
