Mayor Alberto G. Santos announced that exam applications for the civil service position of fire fighter in the Town of Kearny are now available online. Residents can obtain an application and submit payment online at www.state.nj.us/csc. Only online application will be accepted.
Fire protection services are provided in the Town of Kearny by a professional fire department operating out of four firehouses. Kearny’s firefighters are also first responders who are required to hold EMT certificates. “The Town of Kearny is very proud to have one of the finest fire departments in the state. I would like to encourage qualified residents to consider a career in fire work,” said Mayor Santos.
The following are the eligibility requirements for exam applicants:
1. A citizen of the United States of America as of August 31, 2018.
2. A resident of the Town of Kearny or the City of Newark as of August 31, 2018. A comprehensive residency verification of candidates will be done.
3. A high school diploma or equivalent.
4. Be between the ages of 18 and 35 by August 31, 2018 (one is over 35 years old on the day after his or her 35th birthday).
Appointees will be required to pass thorough medical, drug and psychological examinations. Appointees will be required to possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license.
The deadline for filing applications is August 31, 2018. Applications will be accepted beginning July 1, 2018. The exam will be scheduled in the Fall 2018.
