Kearny, NJ – On Monday, June 3, 2019, representatives of SUEZ joined Mayor Alberto G. Santos, the Town Council and members of the Kearny Community Garden for a presentation by SUEZ of a check donation to the Kearny Community Garden. SUEZ’s donation will support the community garden in garden improvements through the purchase of new raised beds, nutrient-rich compost and gardening tools.
Mayor Santos extended the Town’s gratitude to SUEZ for the generous donation. He also noted that the community garden is much more than growing vegetables, fruits and flowers; it is also a setting for community-building and educating the public about healthy eating. During the presentation, one of the founders of the garden, David Mach, thanked garden members for making the community garden grow and building community pride and togetherness.
The community garden was named for Edward C. Bixler, a lifelong Kearny resident and a founding member of the Kearny Community Garden. Made up of local community residents and business representatives, the Kearny Community Garden was formed with the purpose of encouraging residents to participate in gardening through education, community engagement and green infrastructure projects. The garden is located in Riverbank Park along Passaic Avenue and features a view of the river.
