On September 30, 2021, Dee Gillen and Sheryl Cashin of The Black Poster Project and Nancy Labov of Alumni in Recovery presented Angels in the Pews Silent Memorials, a powerful exhibit honoring the lives lost to addiction. Community leaders and residents came together in an impactful walk through the pews at Saint Stephen’s Church in Kearny, to view the posters and honor and pay tribute to loved ones that lost their lives to overdose and the disease of addiction. Volunteers assisted in the set up of the exhibit and placement of candles. The Black Poster Project, started out with 50 awareness posters and now includes 400 that are a part of the moving exhibit that travels throughout New Jersey and New York. Each poster that enters the display is made at the request of the grieving family and at no cost to them. The display of silent memorials also seeks to eradicate the stigma surrounding addiction.
