(Kearny, NJ) – On Wednesday, July 15, 2020, Mayor Alberto G. Santos and Councilmembers Carol Jean Doyle, Eileen Eckel, Susan McCurrie, Marytrine De Castro, Peter Santana and Gerald Ficeto joined members of the Kearny Fire Department and residents for a swearing-in ceremony of Kearny’s new Fire Chief, Joseph Mastandrea and newly promoted Deputy Chief Joe Ferraro and Captain Damien Caceres. Mayor Santos administered the oath as their families proudly witnessed the ceremony.
During the ceremony, Mayor Alberto G. Santos noted, “Joe has a 132-year old foundation of fire services in Kearny on which to build and I’m confident he will enhance a department that’s already one of the very best in the State.” Mayor Santos acknowledged the fire officials and their dedication and commented, “I want to thank each for his service to our community and wish them the very best in faithfully carrying out the demands of their new offices.” Councilwoman Eckel, who serves as Chair of the Council Fire Committee, also commended the new Chief, Deputy Chief and Captain while recognizing the high level of fire protection services provided by the Kearny Fire Department.
